GOLF RETREAT- HOW SWEET IT IS!

Northfield Country Club with its scenic nine-hole golf course
is just 10 minutes from the guesthouse and is open to the
public from mid April to the first of November. Bring your
clubs and enjoy the course!

PUMPKIN RETREAT

Get
in the Halloween mood—marvel at the giant pumpkins (ranging
from 300-500 pounds) growing in the garden patch beside the
guesthouse, while selecting the perfect jack-o-lantern pumpkin
to take home. Get ghoulish and stay for the annual Haunted Hayride at Norwich University (Oct 19-22), or
treat yourself to an enchanted evening at the Great Green
Mountain Pumpkin Show (Thursday-Sunday
during the third week in October)— an annual Halloween
display of more than 1000 lighted jack- o-lanterns at Ellie's
Farm Market, just outside of Northfield.

BALSAM RETREAT - Select the Perfect Tree for the
Holidays

Come
any time of the year and tag the perfect tree from
our balsam grove and return to retrieve it in time for the
holidays. Or come in November or December and cut the
just-the-right tree to decorate your home for the holidays.

Every
year during hunting season and before Thanksgiving, people flock
from around the state to Northfield for amazing bargains at
Cabot Hosiery Mills’ famous sock sale and the Barry T.
Chouinard Comfort Colors t-shirt/sweatshirt sale (to benefit the
Northfield Area Hockey Association). Black Diamond Sportswear in
Montpelier also holds their annual blow-out sale at the same time.

than sugar making in Vermont. As soon as the sap begins to run
in early spring, the ritual begins and our sugarhouse in the
woods becomes the center of activity. Join us for this Vermont
tradition and watch/help as we make Pure Vermont Gold® maple
syrup before your very eyes.
We’ll send you home with a half gallon of freshly made
syrup bottled warm right off the evaporator ($20 value).

SWEET PEONY RETREAT

Northfield is home to Countryman Peony Farm, the largest peony
farm in the country with over 1500 varieties of showy peonies.
Tour the display gardens on foot or in a golf cart, and feast
your eyes on plate-sized puffs of pink, ruby red, white, coral,
burgundy and gold. Includes farm tour and a coupon towards a
peony root of your choice ($20 value).

LABOR DAY GETAWAY
Between
Northfield’s Labor Day Observances’ three day festival and
Randolph’s New World Festival of Music, it’s a hoppin’
good time! The annual New World Festival, voted
one of “Top Ten Fall Events” year after year by the Vermont
Chamber of Commerce, takes place on the
Sunday of Labor Day weekend, with some 100 musicians and folk dancers from
Northern New England and Quebec.

Northfield sponsors a footrace (Sat) with activities and
live music throughout the weekend— culminating on Monday at
10:30 with the largest parade in the state, in which Ray drives
his teams of oxen. The guesthouse is just 15 minutes from

SWEET
CARILLON CONCERT RETREAT

Every Saturday throughout July, Norwich University hosts several world-renowned carillonneurs during its annual summer concert series performed on the Charlotte Nichols Greene Memorial Carillon, in the Jeannie Porter Adams Memorial Tower, located on the college campus. Hear the ethereal music of the 47-bell carillon while enjoying
a summer weekend in central Vermont. Concerts are free. Package includes a box lunch for two to enjoy during the concert. |
